CANADIAN FOOD RECALLS
ALLERGY ALERT
UNDECLARED SOY IN LONDON PORTUGUESE BAKERY BRAND BREAD AND BREAD PRODUCTS
OTTAWA, February 10, 2006 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and London Portuguese Bakery are warning people with allergies to soy protein not to consume various London Portuguese Bakery brand bread and bread products described below. The affected products contain soy flour which is not declared on the label.
All codes of the following London Portuguese Bakery brand bread and bread products are affected by this alert. These products have been distributed in Southwestern Ontario.

In addition, some of the products listed above may also be sold in bulk in plain plastic bags with a sticker bearing the product name. Consumers who are concerned may contact the retail store to determine if the product they purchased is affected.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to soy protein.
The manufacturer, London Portuguese Bakery, London, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

OTTAWA, February 3, 2006 - The public warning issued on February 2, 2006 has been expanded to include additional products.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Les Aliments Aquafuchsia Foods Inc. are warning the public not to consume certain Aquafuchsia brand sprouts described below because these sprouts may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The following Aquafushia brand sprouts are affected by this alert:

These sprouts have been distributed in Quebec, Ontario and Atlantic.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these sprouts.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
Les Aliments Aquafuchsia Foods Inc., Rigaud, Québec is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
