Re: Tomato Recipes
b-man I love green fried tomatoes. Will have to try your recipe. I have added two green tomato recipes of my own - hope all enjoy!
GREEN FRIED TOMATOES
green tomatoes (sliced about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick)
flour
Salt to taste
crisco (the canned not the oil)
Take sliced tomatoes and dip them in flour - put into fry pan of melted crisco. Fry until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel. I usually put mine in a sandwich - that's they way I was raised.
Note: I usually pick the green tomatoes that have a tiny bit of red in them, they seem to be a little more tangy.
Another recipe I grew up on - and sorry - this is what my mom used to call it - is:
SLOP
Cubed green tomatoes
Cubed green pepper
Diced onion
4 - 6 bacon slices - cut into small pieces
In pan fry bacon until done as you like. Do not drain, add in onion, green pepper and green tomatoes and fry until onions are cooked and peppers and tomatoes are softer. May need to add a little bit of Crisco (from the can, not the oil) to prevent sticking. Drain by putting onto a paper towel or paper plate. Again, I have always had this in a sandwich.
Note: For this recipe I do you the totally green tomatoes.
