I don't know how much help this is but I've boiled walnuts - bring about 3 cups of water to a boil, add 2 c. walnuts, boil 1 minute, remove from heat, rinse under hot water and drain. toss with about 1/4 c. sugar. Heat oil about 1/2 inch deep in heavy pan and fry in batches - about 4 or 5 minutes or until golden.
