Can raw onions be frozen and if so what effect does freezing have on the texture and taste

You can freeze them, be prepared for (even when double and triple wrapped after being washed and drained thoroughly) your freezer to smell like onions!

If you don't keep them too long they are fine. I often freeze them for use in stir-fry, etc. when I am in a hurry. When I do - I use a separate freezer.

I cut them into slices or thin wedges; sometimes I will freeze them with strips of green and red pepper.
