Default Aluminum foil

While aluminum foil is a great kitchen item, I have some concerns about cooking with it. If I need to bake something and the recipe calls for the dish to be covered with foil I like to lay a piece of parchment paper between the food and the aluminum foil. Also, cooking in aluminum pots, other than anodized aluminum is not a good idea. Even here in Thailand, a third world country, restaurants are not allowed to use aluminum pots as they did in the past. Maybe I am being overly cautious, but aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer's disease.

I couldn't agree with you more!

I do not cook in aluminum pots! And I using foil quite sparingly.

This is from a previous post I have here on site: Aluminum is one of the most commonly used cookware. It conducts heat well and is lightweight. However, there are certain foods that should not be cooked in aluminum such as those containing citrus fruits, tomatoes, broccoli, or leafy vegetables. The aluminum can be absorbed into the food during heating and storage and end up in your body. Excess aluminum has been associated with conditions such as Alzheimer's. Choose an alternative to aluminum cooking.

Another "thing" I have - T-Fal/Teflon. I have a large article on that as well here in Cooking tips.
As well as another on Microwaves. I've even written about the paper wrappers used in fast-food chains with that Dupont coating on them! Oh believe me - I've been on my soap box plenty of times!

I've even ditched my expensive lead crystal candy dishes and serving items. But I did save 2 to use while knitting or crocheting for collecting ends I cut off.

Hmmmm interesting thought.... I'll have to research more on it but I hear what your saying. I also like your tip on adding parchment paper. Smart!
