Baked Deer Meat
Baked Deer Meat
Cube deer meat; about 2-3 steaks worth
1 Beef bouillon cube; dissolved in:
3/4 c Water
2 ts Worcestershire sauce
1 tb Soya sauce
1 pn Salt and pepper
Chopped onion; (if desired)
Combine all the above in a casserole dish and bake at 325F for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Or combine in a slow cooker and let cook on low for 6-8 hours. Use the broth to make gravy if you like. The meat is tender and not at all gamey this way.

Re: Baked Deer Meat
In my humble opinion this was a waste of good deer meat!

Re: Baked Deer Meat
if you have nothing nice to say - then don't say it - anyone who doesn't like a recipe should ignore it - how rude it would be if we all posted our individual comments on everyone's posts - but its a recipe site for sharing not a recipe contest

Re: Baked Deer Meat
Thank you for your reply! It speaks volumes!
Do not look at this as a contest, just don't want to see good food wasted.
After all I am entitled to my opinion, you seem to share your's alot.

"Anyone who doesn't like a recipe should ignore it"??? Bookwoman was only posting her review of your recipe. Relax! You don't seem to mind when you get a good review. Not everyone likes the same recipe. And it's not being rude (as you put it) to post our review on someone's recipe post. Actually, it's encouraged so that we can decide whether or not we actually want to try the recipe. What is your problem?
I think that you should take your own advice!

like I said - if you have nothing nice to say - then don't say it - anyone who doesn't like a recipe should ignore it - how rude it would be if we all posted our individual comments on everyone's posts - but its a recipe site for sharing - not a recipe contest -
and this had nothing to do with good reviews - many get good reviews that are well deserved -
most people can read a recipe and tell if they want to try it or not - they don't need anyone's comments
what's your problem?

Re: Baked Deer Meat
Okay, this is the last thing I'll say about this. My problem is... what you're saying is... if you don't like a recipe that you've tried here, don't post your comment...keep it to yourself... if your review is not nice, don't tell anybody, just ignore it. LOL But if you liked it, it's okay to say so. That's a sharing community???
You also say... "most people can read a recipe and tell if they want to try it or not - they don't need anyone's comments". So what's the purpose of the forum "Recipe Reviews"????
Where did the word "contest" come from?? How would posting a bad recipe review become a "contest". Isn't it called SHARING your opinion with others about a certain recipe. Many bad recipes are reinvented from bad reviews to become great recipes! How this person added this, another person omitted that, reduced this amount, increased that amount, etc. I know this has been very beneficial and successful for me (and others that I know) from another recipe site that offer good and bad reviews with their recipes. Everyone's tastes are different and you cannot please everyone. Who likes to waste food? If someone can offer some negative opinion about a certain recipe, I say great! I can add this or that, or try another recipe. There are many to choose from.
You could've easily just replied with something like... No, I haven't tried the recipe. Sorry to hear that you didn't like it. Or... Yes, I have tried the recipe and we enjoyed it very much. It's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy it.
It's as simple as that!

Re: Baked Deer Meat
Too bad you can only interpret this your way.
Maybe you should re-read Shadows "humble" opinion. The recipe was not tried - just read and an opinion was given. To me that is not a recipe review.
You've blown this right out of proportion. A recipe site is just like one large cookbook - recipes you may/may not like and recipes you would not even care to try.
If you make a recipe - comments are welcomed. We all have different tastes - and if you read a recipe and it doesn't sound like you would like it - why make a negative comment on it? How rude it would be if we did that to every recipe that was posted.
I can't stomach coconut - but it has not stopped me from cooking and baking with it for others and sharing the recipes. It would be rude for me to comment on someone's coconut recipes because I don't like it. (and this is only an example)
As far as my reply to the comment that was made - I feel it was rude. And I am not saying that because it was a recipe I posted. I would have said the same thing no matter who posted the recipe. This is a recipe site for sharing - likes and dislikes - and it should be done in a positive way - not rudely.
But then again - this all started with other things with Shadows/bookwoman.

I guess we're reading her post differently.
Because she said... "THIS WAS a waste of good deer meat", I take it to mean that she tried the recipe.
If she would have said - THIS WOULD BE a waste of good deer meat - I would have taken it as you did.

Re: Baked Deer Meat
kw, bw & (aline),
wow, i don't know what or how to say this without getting my head bit off. lol. i'm not trying to keep the fires going just curious about this thread. why the animosity?
#1 - the recipe 'looks' ok. however, many recipes look good until you try them and then it wasn't so hot. if i saw a post for a recipe that looks good then someone posted a review that they didn't care for it, i would like to know what they didn't like about it. it would just make me think twice about keeping the recipe or trying it.
#2 - bookwoman, did you try the recipe and if so, what didn't you like about it or would change?
#3 - i'd say that 99% of the recipes that i have posted, i haven't had a chance to try. would like to but don't get around to it, i just like collecting recipes.
if i posted a recipe and someone tried it, i would like to know whether they enjoyed the dish or not. everyone has their own tastes.
i posted a recipe for 'wild turkey surprize'. my friend used to rave about this recipe for years. she loved it. her sister froze some and sent it to here last christmas priority post. i finally made it but didn't care for it. however, that doesn't mean that someone else won't like it. everyone has different tastes.
#3 - where did 'contest' come from?
#4 - bookwoman said 'in her humble opinion'. that's her opinion only. out of the thousands of people that visit and use this site, that's one opinion only. maybe other people have tried it and like it but just haven't posted their opinion.
#5 - a review is a review whether it's good or bad. not everyone is going to like every post. there have been posts by all 3 of you that i looked at and didn't bother keeping as well as many recipes that i've kept.

Yes I tried it ( I have answered that now 3 times ).I eat deer meat for the flavor, this tasted like soy and worchertershire, not to metion it overcooked using the times recommended.

I give my reviews as I see them, I give bad as well as good. This is only the first bad review I have posted in all the reviews I have posted.

Re: Baked Deer Meat
bw,
thanks for replying. was just curious. yeah, i love deer meat too. haven't had it in 10 yrs though. was given a pound of ground moose a couple of years ago. didn't want to ruin it by making burgers so i made made moose meatball bourgignon (sorry about the spelling).
everyone is entitled to their opinion. that's what reviews are for. you didn't like this particular recipe however, someone else might like it though. everyone has different tastes.
i understand what you're saying.
thanks,
rho
