The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Canada Bread Company Limited are warning people with allergies to almonds not to consume Dempster?s WholeGrains Prebiotic Barley & Sunflower bread purchased in Ontario. The affected product may contain almonds which are not declared on the label.
The affected product, Dempster?s WholeGrains Prebiotic Barley & Sunflower bread, is sold in 680 g loaves and was distributed in Ontario only. It has a "best before date" of MR 25 (March 25, 2007), which can be found on the tan-coloured kwik-lock tag at the end of the product. The product bears the UPC 0 68721 00262 8. No other Dempster?s WholeGrains products are affected by this alert.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to almonds.
The manufacturer, Canada Bread Company Limited, Etobicoke, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Lilydale Inc., Edmonton is warning the public not to consume the Lilydale Cooked Seasoned Sliced Turkey Breast described below because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The affected Lilydale Cooked Seasoned Sliced Turkey Breast is sold in 1 kg (2 x 500g) packages bearing UPC code 065843935469 and Best Before date of 07APR18 and 07APR19.
The affected Cooked Seasoned Sliced Turkey Breast was sold only from Costco stores in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

UNDECLARED ALLERGENS IN PRE-PACKAGED FOOD PRODUCTS
OTTAWA, March 23, 2007 ? The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with food allergies to exercise caution before consuming pre-packaged foods. In light of recent food safety investigations and recalls involving certain sandwich products, the CFIA has become aware that some pre-packaged food products offered for sale in Canada may pose a health risk for consumers with food allergies and/or sensitivities.
To date, the CFIA is not aware of any reported allergic reactions associated with the consumption of pre-packaged sandwich products in Canada.
Some pre-packaged food products may be labelled with an incomplete list of ingredients in which ingredients, or components of these ingredients, may not have been declared. Consumers who have allergen sensitivities, and are unsure of the labels ingredient list, should check with the manufacturer before consuming any pre-packaged products.
The CFIA is working with industry to ensure all labels correctly identify the ingredients present and require the nine most common food allergens ( peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds, milk, eggs, seafood, soy, wheat, sulphites) be listed by name in the list of ingredients when they are present in food as ingredients or components of ingredients.

OTTAWA, March 29, 2007 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume any fermented acidified olives described below because these olives may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. Toxins produced by this bacteria may cause botulism, a life-threatening illness.
All sizes, varieties, containers and codes of the fermented acidified olives manufactured by Charlie Brown di Rutigliano & Figli s.r.l. of Italy are affected by this alert.
These olives were distributed under the following brand names : Borrelli, Bonta di Puglia, Marcella?s Garden, Saroli and Tre Monti. The name of the manufacturer does not appear on the label.
These brands of olives obtained from other countries or manufacturers are not affected by this alert.
Consumers who have purchased fermented acidified olives and are not sure of the brands should inquire at the store to verify if they have purchased the affected products.
These olives may have been distributed nationally.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these olives.
Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with the toxin may cause nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, headache, double vision, dry throat, respiratory failure and paralysis. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

This affects only the CARAMEL version called CARAMEL KIT KAT CHUNKY.
TORONTO, ON - As a precautionary measure, Nestlé Canada is voluntarily recalling CARAMEL KIT KAT CHUNKY bars, and is warning consumer not to consume this bar. This product is manufactured in Australia and they have recalled the product due to the possibility that some packs may contain hard pieces of plastic. There were no injuries reported. Although Nestlé Canada has not received any complaints, Nestlé is recalling all codes of this nationally distributed product as a precautionary measure.
This affects only the CARAMEL version called CARAMEL KIT KAT CHUNKY.

All Lots of Dingo Chick?N Jerky Treats for Dogs, Cats and Ferrets May Contain Salmonella
Eight In One, a division of United Pet Group, Inc., announced a voluntary recall across Canada of all lots of Dingo Chick?N Jerky Treats for Dogs, Cats and Ferrets. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) was notified of this voluntary recall by United Pet Group Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio.
In Canada, the affected products were sold at various retailers.
According to the notification, the jerky treats have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, which can cause serious infections in dogs and cats.
Common symptoms of Salmonella infection are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea, although more serious consequences are possible, especially in young children, in the elderly, and in people with weakened immune systems.
People may risk bacterial infection by handling the treats directly or by contact with pets who have used the treats. Anyone who may have handled the treats should wash their hands with warm water and soap. Consumers should dispose of these treats in the trash.

OTTAWA, May 3, 2007 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Abbott Nutrition are advising the public that an unauthorized distributor has supplied pharmacies and retailers in the Montreal area with 900-gram Similac Advance Step 2 powdered infant formula cans bearing a false, over-stickered lot number and expiration date.
Abbott applies the expiration date and lot number information directly onto the bottom of its cans in ink - and does not use stickers for this purpose (please see pictures below).

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the product involved in this action. Correctly labelled Similac Advance Step 2 has not been affected - nor has any other Abbott Nutrition product.
Abbott is working with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and law enforcement authorities, as well as its retail and pharmacy customers, to identify the over-stickered product and remove it from the market.

IKEA recalls IKEA FOOD labeled jars of marinated herring

IKEA want customers who have purchased an IKEA FOOD labeled jar of marinated herring with a Best Before Date 13-02-2008 or earlier to return it to their local IKEA store for a full refund.
Less than 200 of jars of marinated herring with a Best Before Date 13-02-2008 or earlier have been sold in Canada. There have been no reports of glass or injury in Canada. These products have been sold only in the following locations in Canada: Burlington, Edmonton, North York, Boucherville and Etobicoke.
IKEA has received two reports where customers have found a large piece of glass in IKEA FOOD labeled jars of marinated herring. To our knowledge no one has been hurt. These reports were not in Canada.
Safety is always a priority at IKEA, and as a precautionary measure IKEA is recalling IKEA FOOD labeled jars of marinated herring with a Best Before Date 13-02-2008 or earlier. The Best Before Date (DD-MM-YYYY) is to be found on the label directly above the bar code.
IKEA FOOD labeled marinated herring is sold at the Swedish Food Markets at IKEA stores. Only IKEA FOOD labeled jars of marinated herring with a Best Before Date 13-02-2008 or earlier are involved in the recall ? no other jars of marinated herring sold at IKEA stores are affected.

Consumers are advised to check their Hershey products to ensure they do not bear codes that begin with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive.
Various Hershey chocolate products manufactured by Hershey Canada Inc. bearing codes beginning with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive were recalled for possible Salmonella contamination on November 12, 2006. OTTAWA, June 22, 2007 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Hershey Canada are advising the public that certain Hershey chocolate products previously recalled on November 12, 2006, may be available for sale through some independent and private retail outlets.
As a result of an ongoing investigation into recent incidents involving the theft of recalled Hershey Chocolate products in Toronto, Ontario, and the discovery of a quantity of products between the Lindsay and Hamilton area, the CFIA has reason to believe that some recalled Hershey products may have re-entered the marketplace. The affected products may be in circulation through a number of independent distributors, private wholesalers, liquidators and flea markets operating in Ontario.
Consumers are advised to check the codes on all Hershey products in their possession and before purchasing to ensure they do not bear codes that begin with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive.
The CFIA advises all retailers and wholesalers to check their Hershey Chocolate products and remove any product with affected codes from distribution immediately.
Various Hershey chocolate products manufactured by Hershey Canada Inc. bearing codes beginning with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive were recalled for possible Salmonella contamination on November 12, 2006. There have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

OTTAWA, June 27, 2007 - The public advisory issued on June 22, 2007, has been expanded to advise consumers of the potential distribution of three additional products which were not distributed by Hershey and therefore not included in the November 12, 2006 original recall.
In addition to the list of recalled products included in the Health Hazard alert previously issued on November 12, 2006, the following products are affected. These products also bear the codes beginning with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive.
1. Reese Honey Roasted Peanut Butter Cups - 51 g
2. Oh Henry! Rocky Road bar - 60 g
3. Pot of Gold All Nut Collection - 245 g
Various Hershey chocolate products manufactured by Hershey Canada Inc. bearing codes beginning with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive were recalled for possible Salmonella contamination on November 12, 2006. The affected product, Robert's American Gourmet Veggie Booty snack food, a product of the United States (U.S.), is sold in a flexible plastic foil bag. All sizes and lot codes are affected by this alert. This product is known to have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan but may have been distributed nationally. In addition, this product may be available through internet sales, phone orders, and mail orders.
There have been numerous illnesses in the U.S., but none in Canada, associated with the consumption of this product.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. UNDECLARED TREE NUTS IN SUPER SURPRISE CANDY BAGS
OTTAWA, July 5, 2007 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and G. Woudenberg Wholesale Ltd. are warning people with allergies to tree nuts not to consume the contents of the super surprise candy bags described below. The affected chocolate products included in the bags may contain tree nuts which are not declared on the label.
The affected super surprise candy products are packaged in white paper or plastic bags bearing the distributor name G. Woudenberg Wholesale Ltd., Dundas, Ont. The affected super surprise candy bags may contain various brands of unlabelled chocolate bars which are wrapped only in foil without any ingredient listing.
These unlabelled chocolate bars are not associated with any recalls or recent advisories involving chocolate products due to potential Salmonella contamination.
These affected bags have been distributed in the Hamilton, Brantford, Burlington and Niagara areas in Ontario.
There has been no confirmed allergic reaction associated with the consumption of these products.
Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to tree nuts.
The distributor, G. Woudenberg Wholesales Ltd, Dundas, ON is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
