Frequent monitoring is good for your health, but it can be a pain in the fingers. If sticking your fingers is causing you pain, you have some options.
Try this technique: Instead of sticking directly into your finger pad, stick the side of your finger where there are fewer pain sensors. Another technique is to use an automatic (spring-loaded) lancet holder that regulates how deep the lancet goes. Use the shortest depth that will give you an adequate drop of blood for testing. Since skin thickness varies from person to person, you'll need to try different depths to see what works for you.
Because of the danger of transmitting hepatitis and other blood-borne diseases, never use another person's device. Hopefully, in the next few years, noninvasive blood glucose monitors will become widely available for use. These monitors will determine your glucose level without having to stick your finger at all.
