    Default Garlic Mashed Potatoes

    Garlic Mashed Potatoes
4 servings (serving size: 3/4 cup)

1 1/2 pounds cubed, unpeeled red potatoes
3 garlic cloves, peeled and thinly sliced
    1/2 cup 1% low-fat milk
    2 tablespoons butter
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper

    1. Place potatoes and garlic in a large saucepan; cover with cold water, and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife (about 20 minutes). Drain; return to pot over low heat.

    2. Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash potatoes with a potato masher to desired consistency.

I only use garlic powder in a recipe when it's something where the fresh garlic might burn, otherwise it's fresh garlic for me. Nothing like it!

I had a recipe last year that it was necessary to cook the potatoes with half and half and sautéed with garlic and butter. The potatoes were left undrained and mashed potatoes in the same half and half, which was prepared Unfortunately, I can not find a recipe for this year. You know what I mean.

The aboriginal additive listed on the box is Idaho mashed potatoes, which I anticipation was a acceptable sign. However, the diet advice shows that they accept a absolute of 90 calories (160 afterwards you baker them), with 15 calories from fat (70 afterwards you adapt them). These are top numbers, and they even accept some saturated fat and auto fat, afore you add the milk and butter.

I anticipate that I will use absolute potatoes in the future, even admitting it takes a little added time and accomplishment to bark and abscess them.

These fast aliment potatoes accept about no vitamins and minerals, admitting absolute potatoes are a acceptable antecedent of potassium. In fact, potatoes are advised a complete food.

I am a retired Registered Nurse. I thought it was odd that your husband was told not to eat potatoes, so I googled and I copied this from the American Diabetes Association website.

Myth: If you have diabetes, you should only eat small amounts of starchy foods, such as bread, potatoes and pasta.

Fact: Starchy foods are part of a healthy meal plan. What is important is the portion size. Whole grain breads, cereals, pasta, rice and starchy vegetables like potatoes, yams, peas and corn can be included in your meals and snacks. The key is portions. For most people with diabetes, having 3-4 servings of carbohydrate-containing foods is about right. Whole grain starchy foods are also a good source of fiber, which helps keep your gut healthy
