ipsyrebel - you can always use the smaller jars for spice mixes, beverage mixes, coatings/breadings, etc.

Also - little jars with different colored layers of candies are nice to give.

Default Re: GIFTS FROM A JAR RECIPES

I just found this site and I am VERY excited to try several recipes. I'm not sure if this goes here, I don't know where I got the original recipe from- but I do make them in a jar.

Blueberry Bombs

2 c fresh blueberryies (take out the "bad" ones and wash)
1 c sugar
1/2 c water
1 t lemon zest (or jucie from 1/2 lemon)
1 c 100-proof vodka
1/2 c brandy

Place blueberries in 1 qt jar. Make simple syrup (bring sugar and water to a boil over medium high heat - sitr contantly so it doesn't burn). When clear remove from heat and let stand until warm. Add remaining ingredients over blueberries. Cover and let stand for 1 mont before serving. This makes about 2 1/2 quarts or 5 pints.

My family asks for these every year. It's great in fruit salad or over ice cream.

I am contributing:

DREAMSICLE COOKIES IN A JAR

1/2 cup powdered orange flavored drink mix, such as Tang
3/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups vanilla baking chips
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Combine the flour with the baking soda and baking powder. Layer the ingredients in a
clean glass wide mouth quart sized jar, starting with the Tang, then sugar, vanilla chips

ingredient.
Attach a recipe card with the following instructions to the jar.
Dreamsicle Cookies

Empty contents into a large mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 egg slightly
beaten and teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix until completely blended.
Roll heaping tablespoonfuls into balls. Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking
sheet.
Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 12 to 14 minutes or until tops are very lightly
browned. Cool for 5 minutes on the sheet then remove cookies to wire racks to cool
completely.

1 1/2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
5 teaspoons instant coffee

Default Re: GIFTS FROM A JAR RECIPES

These are great recipes. I just have an idea about presentation for some of the items that make less than a quart.

A few years ago I made salad dressing mixes for Christmas. I took the plastic jars that powdered cream comes in, I think the jars are about 8 ounces. By sliding a thin paring knife between the plastic shrink wrap label and the jar itself the label comes off real easy. There is a little bit of gummy adhesive at the top, but I wash the jars in hot water and the gummy stuff comes off real easy with a sponge. Some of the caps have some numbers printed on them, which come off easily with a q tip dipped in nail polish remover.

I printed the instructions on some attractive paper that I had, using red and green fonts. I punched a hole in the instructions and tied it around the top of the jar with a 1/8" ribbon in a bow. I found some Christmas pot holders at the dollar store that had a pocket. Two of the jars (Different flavors of dressing) fit in the pot holder. Voilà! A cute present.

This might sound like a lot of trouble, but I use that kind of creamer all the time and hate to throw anything away, so I had a ton of the jars. I just removed the label and wash them and put into a big plastic bag until I need them. I also have the taller jars that hold about 15 ounces. I have given a few food gifts in those also, but they are not as cute as the two little ones in the pot holder.
