FUN RECIPES FOR THE HOLIDAYS TO MAKE WITH CHLDREN

Children are always excited about the holidays and it is nice to include them in many holiday preparations including baking and cooking. Here are a few recipes that are fun to make with chldren............

and it's never too soon to learn!



SANTA?S MAGIC COCOA

Now THIS is a ?Gift in a Jar? type recipe for children to assemble and give as gifts! It?s never too early to start with this!

1 T. cocoa
1 T. brown sugar
1 Milky Way Miniature candy bar
1 candy cane

Combine cocoa and brown sugar in small plastic food storage bag; tie the plastic bag with a piece of ribbon. Place the bag in a microwave-safe mug. Place the mimiature candy bar and candy cane in the mug.

Have your child write the following instructions on a recipe card and include it in the mug:

?Heat a cup of milk in your microwave oven for one minute. Stir in the hot cocoa mix. Have a parent chop the Milky Way miniature candy bar into small pieces and stir it into the hot chocolate. Place mug back in microwave for another minute, until it is hot and bubbly. Use the candy cane to stir your hot chocolate. Enjoy!?





MILKY WAY DREAM BARS

4 MILKY WAY® Brand Miniatures ?
16 full sheets of graham crackers, crushed
(1 3/4 cups crushed) ?
1/2 cup sugar ?
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional) ?
1 stick melted butter (1/4 pound) ?

Preheat oven to 350 ° F. Combine crushed graham crackers, sugar, cinnamon & melted butter and blend well. Press half of graham cracker mixture into a 9" square or round pan. Slice MILKY WAY® Brand Miniatures into thin slices and layer over Graham Cracker crust. Sprinkle evenly with remaining graham cracker crumb mixture. Bake for approximately 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely. Cut into squares. (Makes approximately 3 dozen 1 1/2-inch bars)





ST. NICK?S DOVE STICKS

2½ cups graham cracker crumbs ?
2½ cups confectioner's sugar ?
1 cup creamy peanut butter ?
2 sticks butter ?
1 greased pan (15-inch x 10-inch x 1-inch) ?
1 pkg. (11 oz.) DOVE® Milk or Dark Chocolate Gifts ?
1 pkg. (16 oz.) "M&M's"® Peanut Chocolate Candies for the Holidays

Combine graham cracker crumbs, confectioners sugar, peanut butter and butter in bowl; mix thoroughly. Press mixture into the bottom of greased pan. Melt Dove Chocolate Gifts in the microwave for 90 seconds or until smooth. Pour melted chocolate on top of mixture and smooth with a spatula. Place red and green peanut M & M?s over the layer of chocolate. Refrigerate to set chocolate - approximately 1 1/2 hours. Cut and serve. Makes about 2 dozen bars.





MIDNIGHT SNOW PIE

1 pkg. (12 oz.) MILKY WAY® MIDNIGHT? Brand Miniatures ?
½ gallon vanilla ice cream ?
1 pre-made chocolate pie crust (9-inch diameter) ?
1 tub (8 oz.) whipped topping

Set aside 8 to 10 Milky Way Midnight Miniatures. Unwrap and chop the remaining Milky Way Midnight miniatures.? Place ice cream into a large bowl and stir to soften. Quickly stir the chopped candy bars into the ice cream. Spoon mixture into pie crust and freeze for at least 2 hours. When ready to serve, spread on whipped topping and garnish with leftover whole candy bars. ***You may substitute any miniature candy bars.





SHORTBREAD CANDY CANES

1 cup butter, room temperature ?
1/2 cup confectioners sugar ?
1 3/4 cups flour ?
1/4 teaspoon salt ?
1/4 teaspoon baking powder ?
1 bag M&M'S® Brand Milk Chocolate Candies for the Holidays ?
1 container white frosting

Combine butter and confectioners sugar; blend well. Whisk flour, salt and baking powder; add to cream mixture. Form dough and roll on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thick. Cut candy cane shapes with cookie cutter or knife. Bake in preheated 350* F. oven for about 10 minutes or until light brown. Cool. Frost with white frosting and decorate with Holiday M & M?s. Makes about 20 cookies.






SANTA'S SURPRISE COOKIE

These special cookies have a secret! Here's a hint: SNICKERS® fans will love them!

2 sticks butter, softened
1 c. creamy peanut butter
1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
3 ½ c. flour, sifted
1 t. baking soda
½ t. salt
1 bag Snickers miniatures
1 bag Dove Milk or Dark chocolate Gifts

Combine butter, peanut butter and sugars; beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition; beat in vanilla. In separate bowl, whisk flour, salt and baking soda; add to creamed mixture; mix well. Cover and chill dough for 2 to 3 hours.

Unwrap candies. Remove dough from refrigerator. Roll into 1 tablespoon size balls and flatten.
Place a Snickers miniature in the center of each piece of dough. Form the dough around the miniature. Place on greased baking sheets and bake in preheated 325* F. oven for 10 to 12 minutes. I fusing more than 1 tablespoon dough the cookies will take longer to bake. Cool cookies on wire racks. Melt Dove candies and drizzle over cooled cookies. Makes 2 dozen.






MARBLED BROWNIES
These chocolaty, colorful brownie bars are a great way to celebrate the holidays!

1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1/8 c. heavy cream
½ t. vanilla extract
1 pkg. brownie mix (choose directions for the cake-style brownie)
1 bag M & M?s Milk Chocolate Candies for the Holidays
Parchment paper

Beat cream cheese and sugar; add egg, heavy cream and vanilla; mix well. Set aside.
Prepare brownie mix according to package directions. Spoon 2/3 batter into a parchment lined 13 X 9-inch baking pan. Cover the batter with 1 ½ c. milk chocolate candies. Spoon reserved cream cheese mixture over brownie batter. Top with remaining 1/3 of brownie batter. Swirl the tip of a knife through the batter to make a marbled effect. Press remaining ½ c. candies into the batter. Bake in preheated 350* F. oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until slightly moist in the center. Cool completely before cutting into 2-inch squares. Makes 24 squares





HOLIDAY TIME TURTLES
These chocolaty-chunky treats make a great little gift for co-workers, neighbors or anyone!

1 bag Milky Way Miniatures, unwrapped and thoroughly chopped
2/3 c. sweetened condensed milk (½ 14 oz. can)
1 stick (½ c. ) butter or margarine
2 c. shelled pecan pieces
1 bag Dove Dark Chocolate Gifts, unwrapped

Melt Milky Way miniatures with condensed milk and butter in top of double boiler; stir until smooth. Remove from heat and add nuts; mix well. Refrigerate 20 minutes. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper lined baking sheet. Freeze for 15 minutes. Chop Dove candy bars; melt 2/3 of Dove bars in top half of double boiler; remove from heat immediately and add remaining chocolate. Stir until all the chocolate is melted. Using a for, dip the Milky Way drop into the chocolate, one at a time. Place ?turtles? on wax paper lined tray and freeze until firm, about 30 minutes.






CHRISTMAS CUPCAKE PLATTER
Display this edible tree for a festive and delicious centerpiece!

2 bags (11 oz. each) M & M?s Milk Chocolate Candies for the Holidays
1 bag 3 Musketeers miniature
1 bag Snickers miniatures
1 bag Twix miniatures
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 can vanilla frosting
Green food coloring

Preheat oven to 350* F. Chop ½ bag Snickers miniatures. Prepare cake according to package directions. Fold chopped Snickers into batter and pour into 10 lined cupcake molds. Bake approximately 20 minutes. Cool completely. Tint frosting with green food coloring. Spread over tops of cupcakes. Once decorated, place the cupcakes on a tray to look like a tree. Start by lining 4 cupcakes along the bottom of the tray. Decrease each line (3, 2, 1) forming the shape of a Christmas tree. Use Twix miniatures at the bottom of the tree to create its trunk. Scatter remaining 3 Musketeers, Snickers and Twix miniatures around the base to represent presents.
Makes 10 cupcakes.





REINDEER-ON-A-STICK
Oh, what fun it is to delight children (or even Santa) with a chocolate-y cookie!

1 tube (18 oz.) refrigerated cookie dough
2/3 c. flour
3-inch round cookie cutter
Yellow sprinkles
2 bags (11 oz. each) Dove Milk Chocolate Gifts, unwrapped
1 bag (14 oz.) M & M?s Milk chocolate Candies for the holidays
1 bag (11 oz.) Dove Dark Chocolate Gifts, unwrapped
Snowflake sprinkles
48 mini pretzel twists
1 tube white decorative frosting
Red and green curling ribbon
Craft sticks

Preheat oven to 350* F. Knead sugar cookie dough with flour until smooth. Roll to ¼-inch thickness; cut out 24 cookie rounds; transfer rounds to ungreased cookie sheet. Break the top curves of the pretzel twists to resemble antlers. Then press 2 pretzels at the top of each cookie circle and one craft stick at the bottom. (cookie sucker style) Bake 12 t o14 minutes or until golden. Cool on wire rack. Melt milk chocolate Dove candies in microwave. Stirring until smooth. Spread a spoonful of chocolate over each cookie and pretzels. Sprinkle yellow sprinkles over the antlers and the snowflake sprinkles between the antlers as the hair. Place a Dove Dark Chocolate Gift into the middle of each cookie and then place it on a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Chill in the refrigerator until the chocolate is hardened, about 15 to 20 minutes. Attach M & M?s to the Dove Dark Chocolate Gifts for the eyes and nose with decorative icing. Tie a ribbon into a bow at the bottom of the reindeers head. Makes 24 pops.





SNOWBALL COOKIES
These fluffy treats look so real, you'll expect them to be ice-cold.

½ c. butter
1 t. vanilla
1 ¼ c. confectioners sugar, divided
2 c. flour
1 bag (13 oz.) Snickers miniatures
1 c. chopped walnuts

Chop ½ c. Snickers miniatures. Set aside. Cream together butter, ¼ c. confectioners sugar and vanilla. Slowly blend in flour, nuts and chopped Snickers. Roll dough into 1 ½-inch balls. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Bake in preheated 350* F. oven for 12 to 14 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Roll cookies in remaining confectioners sugar, completely covering them. Makes 25 to 30 cookies.

MINTY CHRISTMAS COOKIES

2 bags M&M'S® Brand Mint Chocolate Candies for the Holidays
2 1/2 cups flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup chopped pecan pieces
2 non-stick cookie sheets or parchment-lined cookie sheets

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine the flour, baking soda, cocoa and salt in a bowl; set aside.
With the mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, until blended. Gradually stir in the flour mixture.
Fold in the pecans and all but 1 cup of the M&M'S® Brand Mint Chocolate Candies for the Holidays.
Make the cookies with a tablespoon of dough in the cookie sheet. Add extra reserved M&M'S® Brand Mint Chocolate Candies for the Holidays on top of each cookie before baking.
Bake for 12-15 minutes.

Tip: If your family likes their cookies extra minty, try adding a few more M&M'S® Brand Mint Chocolate Candies to the mix!

Makes about 36 cookies

NUGGETS OF JOY


1 bag MILKY WAY® Brand Milk Chocolate Covered Caramels
1 18-oz. roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 cup ground pecans
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup confectioner's sugar
2 non-stick cookie sheets


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Unwrap 18 MILKY WAY® Brand Milk Chocolate Covered Caramels; set aside.
Combine the cookie dough, flour, cocoa powder, pecans and cinnamon; knead until smooth.
Divide the dough into 36 pieces, each about the diameter of a quarter. Cut the MILKY WAY® Brand Milk Chocolate Covered Caramels in half, and tuck one piece into the center of each piece of cookie dough. Roll the dough into balls, completely covering the candy. Place the balls on a non-stick cookie sheet.
Bake for 15-17 minutes.
Roll the warm cookies in confectioner's sugar to coat them.

Makes 36
