Default Applebee's Red Apple Sangria

Top Secret Recipes

version of

Applebee's Red Apple Sangria

By Todd Wibur

Menu nescrtption:"Drinkin the passions of Spain! A delightful mix of Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon, Shakka Apple Liqueur, Dole pineapple juice, Ocean Spray cranberry juice, and grenadine. Garnished with maraschino cherry, orange, lime and fresh apple."

Because of all the garnishes, my bartender at Applebee's has nicknamed this drink "the fruit salad." Whatever you call it, underneath all that fruit is an easy-to-clone cabernet sangria with a refreshing apple flavor from Shakka Apple Liqueur. If you can't find Shakka brand apple liqueur, the recipe also works with Pucker sour apple liqueur, or any other apple flavored liqueur or schnapps. I've listed all the brand names here that Applebee's uses for the mixers, but you can substitute with any brands and you'li still get a great drink. Don't have Sierra Mist? Sprite or 7-Up works just as well.

1/3 cup Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon
1 1/4 ounces Shakka apple liqueur
1/2 ounce grenadine
1 1/2 ounces Ocean Spray cranberry juice
1 1/2 ounces Dole pineapple juice
Sierra Mist soda (or other lemon-lime soda)

Garnish
2 red apple balls
orange wedge
lime wedge
maraschino cherry

1. Fill 16 ounce wine glass with ice.

2. Add red wine, apple liqueur, grenadine, cranberry juice, pineapple juice, and top off the drink with Sierra Mist.

3. Use the small end of a melon bailer to scoop 2 balls out of a red apple. Pierce the apple balls with a toothpick.

4. Drop all of the garnishes into the drink and serve with a straw.

Makes 1 drink.
