Default Dishwasher Recipes

To be honest with you - I'm glad I don't have a dishwasher - I don't think I would try this!

Dishwasher Lasagna Florentine

Serves: 4
Preparation Time: 20-30 minutes
Cooking Time: 2-hour cycle

Ingredients:
* ½ jar of your favorite pasta sauce
* 3 fresh lasagna pasta sheets (you can also use ?oven-ready? lasagna sheets)
* ½ 16.8 oz container of Ricotta cheese
* ½ package of mixed grated cheese
* 1 cup freshly chopped spinach
* Garlic
* Onion flakes
* Fine herbs
* Extra thick aluminum foil

Preparation:
1. Cut three 24-inch x 12-inch sheets of aluminum foil and lie on flat surface.

2. Place first lasagna pasta sheet flat in the centre of the aluminum foil and spread a thick layer of pasta sauce over the entire noodle.

3. Mix the ricotta cheese and chopped spinach in bowl. Spread half the ricotta cheese and spinach mixture on top of the pasta sauce.

4. Next, sprinkle desired amount grated cheese, fine herbs, garlic, and onion flakes, and top with second pasta sheet.
Tip: To help eliminate any extra moisture while cooking in the dishwasher, it is recommended to use dried onion flakes for flavor rather than fresh onions.

5. Repeat with pasta sauce, ricotta cheese and spinach mixture, and herbs.

6. Cut the third lasagna pasta sheet into 3/8-inch strips and place on top in a criss-cross fashion, one under the other.

7. Sprinkle with fine herbs.

Packaging:
* Securely wrap lasagna in the aluminum foil by taking the two longest sides of the foil and bringing them to meet in the middle, above the lasagna.

* Begin carefully folding the two edges together creating a ?paper bag? effect until the two sides are folded down just above the lasagna.

* Flatten the foil down so it is flat above the lasagna and begin to fold the sides in like a present, first folding the corners inside and then folding the remainder in towards the lasagna.

* Once the lasagna is wrapped, place it flat in the dishwasher on the bottom rack. Tip: You can also add dirty dishes and detergent to the dishwasher but only if you are confident the lasagna is tightly wrapped, otherwise you?ll end up with a very soapy lasagna.

* Set dishwasher on normal cycle and select ?heated dry? and ?sanitize? for extra heat. This cycle should take about two hours.

SALMON RECIPE

4 (4 ounce) fillets salmon
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon dried dill, or to taste
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

DIRECTIONS
Tear off 4 sheets of aluminum foil, large enough to wrap each steak. Grease one side of each piece of foil.

Place one salmon filet on each and drizzle a little olive oil on top of each piece of salmon. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and dill weed to taste. Drizzle a bit of the lemon juice over each piece of salmon.

Wrap up the steaks, carefully sealing each foil packet. Test each packet by pressing on it. If air escapes, re-wrap it. Put on the top rack of the dishwasher and run for a full cycle, with heated drying. Salmon will be done when the dishwasher runs the full cycle.

SHRIMP A LA DISHWASHER

20 Jumbo shrimp
1 Onion (sliced)
2 Lemons (sliced)
1 tablespoon Salt
1 tablespoon Freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon Paprika
2 clove Garlic (chopped)

Make sure your dishwasher is clean. Prepare 4 double layers of heavy duty aluminum large enough to wrap shrimp and spices airtight. Arrange 2 slices of onion on each foil, then 5 shrimp. Distribute salt, pepper, paprika, and chopped garlic evenly among the 4 shrimp servings. Place 2 lemon slices on each serving and distribute juice of second lemon evenly among the four servings. Wrap servings tightly, folding edges as you would a package. Load packages on top shelf of dishwasher. Run through rinse cycle. When cycle is finished, you will have steamed shrimp and amazed guests. This recipe is more than delicious.

Dishwasher Salmon

1 tablespoon olive oil
4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets
4 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
heavy-duty aluminum foil

1 Cut two 12-inch square sheets of aluminum foil.
2 Grease the shiny side of the foil with the oil. Place 2 fillets side by side on each square and fold up the outer edges.
3 Drizzle 1 tablespoon lime juice over each fillet. Season with salt and pepper.
4 Fold and pinch the aluminum foil extra tightly to create a watertight seal around each pair of fillets. Make sure the packet is airtight by pressing down on it gently with your hand. If air escapes easily, rewrap.
5 Place foil packets on the top rack of the dishwasher. Run dishwasher for the entire "normal" cycle.
6 When cycle is complete, take out salmon, discard foil, place one fillet on each plate, and spoon a generous serving of dill sauce over top.

This bright, fresh-tasting sauce will add some bite to your catch.

Piquant Dill Sauce

1 tablespoon butter
1 leek, white part only, finely chopped, then thoroughly washed
1 shallot, minced
1 jalapeño chili, seeds and membranes removed, finely diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup chicken stock
1 1/2 cups lightly packed fresh dill, stems removed before measuring
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons sour cream

1 Melt the butter over medium heat in a sauté pan.
2 Add the leek, shallot, jalapeño, and garlic and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the leeks and shallots are translucent?but not brown.
3 Reduce heat to medium and add the stock. Simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. (Adjust heat as required to maintain simmer.) The liquid should reduce by half.
4 Remove from heat and let cool.
5 Transfer to a blender or food processor and add the dill, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Puree until smooth. Reserve and reheat just before serving. Stir in the sour cream at the last minute.

DISHWASHER SALMON FILLETS

6 (6-10 oz.) salmon fillets or 6 (10-12 oz.) salmon steaks
6 tsp. butter
Lemon pepper

Spray a glass plate with Pam. Place salmon on plate. Put thin slices of butter (1 teaspoon) on each and sprinkle with lemon pepper. Place plate on foil and cover fish airtight. Put large piece of foil on top and tuck under so water cannot get into foil seams.

Put in dishwasher on lowest rack or if your dishwasher shoots water only in middle, you have to set it on the top rack. Set the dishwasher on its highest setting. Fish should go through wash-rinse, wash-rinse, hot dry (complete cycle should be no longer than 1 hour) and your fish is ready. Open foil, drain juice in a pot. Cover fish with foil and keep warm in oven.

Dishwasher Salmon with Sorrel Sauce
Serves 4

* Heavy-duty aluminium foil
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 4 x 200g salmon fillets, pin-boned
* 80ml (1/3 cup) lime juice

Sorrel sauce

* 40g butter
* 1 leek, white part only, finely chopped
* 1 eschalot, finely chopped
* 250ml (1 cup) chicken stock
* 2 cups lightly packed trimmed sorrel, or ½ cup chopped dill*
* 2 tablespoons lemon juice
* 60ml (1/4 cup) pouring cream

* Dill makes a good substitute when sorrel is unavailable.
Directions

1. Layer two 30cm x 40cm sheets of foil together. Brush the shiny side of the foil with half the oil, place 2 fillets, side-by-side on top, then fold up the outer edges. Drizzle 1 tablespoon lime juice over each fillet and season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Fold and pinch the foil extra tightly to create a watertight seal around the fillets.
2. To ensure that the packet is airtight, press down on it gently with your hand ? if air escapes easily, rewrap. Repeat wrapping with another 2 pieces of foil, remaining oil, fish and lime juice.
3. Place the fish on the top rack in the dishwasher. Set the dishwasher to the ?normal? cycle and run it without any detergent for 45 minutes, which should take it through just the wash cycle. (Different brands of dishwasher may have varying washing cycles, with differences in water temperature, so check the machine?s manual, which will tell you the temperature and duration of your washing cycle. Ideally ?cook? the salmon in a water temperature of 55°C for 45 minutes.)
4. Meanwhile, make the sorrel sauce. Heat butter in a frying pan over medium heat, add leek and eschalot, and cook for 8 minutes or until leek is soft. Add stock and simmer for 15 minutes or until reduced by half, then set aside to cool.
5. Once cooled, transfer to a blender, add sorrel, lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste, then purée until smooth. Transfer to a small saucepan until ready to serve.
6. Once the wash cycle is completed, stop the dishwasher before it starts the drying cycle. To be sure, it is best to set a kitchen timer for 45 minutes. Remove the salmon from the dishwasher.
7. To serve, reheat the sauce over medium heat, then stir in the cream. Remove the salmon from the foil, place a fillet on each plate and spoon a generous amount of sauce over.

It's nice to know someone who has done it! A few of my friends swear by it - but I've never tried it - I'm too used to the pan and the flame (or oven)!
