A special treat for the doggies

Dog Cookies

Makes About 30

Ingredients

3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup bacon grease
2 teaspoon cod liver oil
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup beef or chicken bouillon which ever your dog prefers

Instructions

Combine all ingredients into a sticky dough. Drop by tablespoonfuls
onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 325'F. for 50 minutes. Cool
on rack and store in plastic bag. Makes about 30.

Great post SkyEyz_7. This is a keeper. We have an 8 yr. old German Shep. that doesn't think she's a dog! At meal time or snack time for my kids, our dog (Nikki) thinks she's a person too, and expects her fair share. Worse than that, my dad has taken her in his car when he has to make a trip to the hardware outlet or other such store...and she loves it. Sits up, as though she owns the seat.....but, he takes her for ice cream! He gets himself a cone and Nikki a baby cone! Any wonder they are best of friends! So added to that little repetoire, is his regular pruchase of dog treats for her. Anytime she hears a bag rustle, or any noise from the kitchen...she thinks "that's gotta be for me." Don't get me wrong...she's a great pet....very possesive of our kids. And she isn't allowed anywhere near the table when people are eating. She's pretty good about that. But, with the cost of dog treats from the pet store...this is a prayer answered! I can't wait to try the recipe. My only fear.....after a batch is made, and if I ask my wife if there are any cookies, I'm afraid she'll say "shake a paw!"

Your very welcome b-man . I hope she enjoys it as much as our dog does. Our dog Cody wont eat even the expensive treats i have spent lots of money on them only to have his nose turned up at it, but he does like these. I know what you mean about ice cream Cody goes nuts when he sees ice cream container or hears the word we dont say it unles we intend on giving him some or he whines and sulks and wont come near us.
Plus the benefit of making your own treats for them you know they are getting healthy food not by products. Let me know what she thinks of them.

I saw the post for the doggie cookies, and just could not resist posting these recipes for "doggie cakes". My black labs really like the "Beefy Birthday Cake".

CANINE BIRTHDAY CAKE

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup chopped/unsalted peanuts
1/4 cup oil
1/3 cup honey
1 teaspoon soy flour
1 egg
5 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup ground or grated carrots

1. Preheat oven to 325°.
2. Combine flours, baking soda and peanuts. Mix in egg, oil, vanilla, honey and carrots until well combined. Pour mixture into a prepared cake pan and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.


Birthday Cake #2

13 ounce can premium dog food
1 cup flour
1 and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 pound beef liver
2 eggs, separated
12 ounces low or non fat cream cheese softened.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9 inch round cake
pan. Simmer the beef in a little water until cooked. cool and
grind in a blender to a smooth, soft paste. Mix thoroughly
with canned dog food. Beat the egg whites to soft peaks and
fold into the liver mixture. Blend in flour and baking powder
being careful not to over mix. you want to retain the lightness
of the egg whites. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until an inserted
toothpick comes our clean. cool and frost with the soft cream
cheese. Decorate with dog biscuits and serve.

Birthday Cake #3

1 1/2 cups All-Purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. Baking powder
1/2 cup Margarine, softened
1/2 cup Corn oil
1 Jar strained beef or liver baby food (2 1/2-ounce)
4 Eggs
3 Strips dog beef jerky, crumbled (optional)
Plain yogurt or cottage cheese for icing

Sift flour and baking powder together; set aside. In large bowl,
with electric mixer at medium speed, cream margarine until
smooth. Add corn oil, baby food and eggs; mix until smooth.
At low speed, gradually beat flour mixture into beef mixture
until batter is smooth. Fold in beef jerky. Pour batter into
well-greased and floured 8"x 5"x 3" loaf pan. Bake in a
preheated 325F oven 70 minutes. Let cool on wire rack a few
minutes before removing from pan to cool completely. Ice each
slice with yogurt or cottage cheese for dogs, or with cottage
cheese for cats. Yield: 1 (8") loaf cake.


Beefy Birthday Cake

1lb ground beef-extra lean
8 eggs
1 cup oat meal
1/2 cup cracker crumbs

Using electric mixer, blend all items together until completely
blended. Pour into an oblong cake pan sprayed with non-stick
spray. Bake in oven at 350 for 25- 35 minutes. Allow to cool.
carefully invert on to plate and frost with non-fat sour cream or
imitation potato topping. Store left over in refrigerator.


Recipe for K-9 Birthday Cake

Ingredients:

1 cup white or whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup honey (optional)
1 egg


Mix the dry ingredients. Add the remaining ingredients and
mix quickly. Bake in a greased ring mold at 350 degrees
for 40 minutes. You may frost this cake with low fat cottage
cheese and decorate with some carrot pieces. Store in the
refrigerator. (Dogs will eat this without the honey added)

Doggy Birthday Cake
Mix together:

4 lbs. ground turkey
3 cups cooked brown rice
1 cup diced carrots
1 cup diced celery
1 cup minced parsley

Mix together & add to first 4 ingredients:

2 eggs beaten
3 tsp chopped garlic
2 T olive oil
1/4 tsp vanilla

Add to above & mix thoroughly:

1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup whole wheat flour

Lightly grease (4) round 8" cake pans
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees and bake one (1) hour
Frost with 4 cups mashed potatoes. Serves 10.

Recipe can be cut in half, or make entire amount -
frost each cake individually and then freeze
in heavy freezer bags for future use.

Chicken Garlic Birthday Cake From Bone Appetite
Bakery Houston, TX

Yield: 2 Small_cake

Ingredients:

1 Chicken bouillon cube
1 cup Whole-wheat flour
2 cup Wheat germ, plus more for flouring pan
1/2 cup Cornmeal
2 Eggs
1/2 cup Vegetable oil
1 tbl Minced garlic
2 cup ,water
Garlic-flavored vegetable- oil spray

Method:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Dissolve bouillon cube in warm water.
Combine flour, wheat germ, cornmeal, eggs, oil, garlic and water.
Spray two cake pans with garlic-flavored oil, and sprinkle with flour.
Bake 50 minutes. After removing cake from oven, turn upside down
and let cool. Makes two small cakes.



DOGGIE BIRTHDAY CAKE
2 c. flour
2 (6 oz.) cans Hi Protein dog food
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. oil
4 eggs
4 tsp. baking powder
Milk - enough for batter consistency

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes in 9 x 13 inch pan.
Recipe can be "halved" for smaller cake.

These recipes are great! We, too, have a dog - a Dandy Dinmont Terrier. What a BABY!! We buy her dry dog food ($15 for small bag) and she will not eat it unless it is fed to her "one by one" while you're pretending to eat it too. Spoiled!!! She would rather have our food. She loves pinapples, oranges, and broccoli. However, she cannot eat anything that contains corn. It makes her itch too much. She goes absolutely crazy with eyes bulging out when she sees a "Little Cesar" package. Personally, I think their gross. Will have to get hubby to make these dog treat recipes cuz I don't know if I can stomach it She loves her treats and expects a treat when let out it the morning and upon her re-entering the house. My daughter will love the cake ideas! And like skyEyz_7 said, you know what they're getting when you make it yourself. Thanks again for these recipes.

Wow thanks for the dog recipes cant wait to see if my dog likes them .

Cheese dog treats

2 cups flour
1 1/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 tablespoons water

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Combine flour, cheese, garlic and vegetable oil until mixture is the consistencyof coarse meal.
Slowly add water until mixture forms a ball (this may require a little more water).
Divide dough into 12 equal pieces and roll out each piece 1/2 inch thick.
Cut out bones with a cutter or by creating a template.
Do not re-roll scraps.
Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 10 to 15 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned.
Carefully transfer to a wire rack to completely cool.
Refrigerate in an airtight container.


Another dog treat Beefy

3/4 cup hot water or beef broth or chicken broth
1/3 cup margarine
1/2 cup lactaid lactose-free milk or powdered milk
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon parsley flakes
1 egg, beaten
3 cups whole-wheat flour

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
In large bowl, combine water or broth with margarine.
Add Lactaid or powdered milk, salt, garlic, parsley and egg.
Stir in flour in 1/2 cup increments, mixing well after each addition.
Knead the dough for 3-4 minutes and roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
Cut into desired shapes.
Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for 50 minutes.
Remove from oven and let dog biscuits cool until dry and hard-- (I often leave them in the oven after turning it off.).
