Default Potica

A Slovenian friend gave this to me - it was very good.

DOUGH:
1/2 lb marg. or butter
1 pkg dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
3 egg yolks
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup warm milk
2 TBL sugar
3 cups flour
FILLING: 3 egg whites
1 lb walnuts
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup sugar
ICING:
3/4 cup confectioners sugar
1 tsp vanilla 3 tsp milk
1 TBL melter butter
DIRECTIONS FOR DOUGH:
Melt butter and cool. Dissolve yeast in warm water, set aside. Beat egg yolks with salt. Add warm milk and yeast to egg mixture plus sugar. Add flour alternately with the cooled butter. Chill overnight. Dough will be sticky.
DIRECTIONS FOR FILLING:
Beat egg whites until stiff with the sugar and vanilla. Grind walnuts. Divide dough into 3 equal parts-roll out to size of jelly roll pan (length & width). Spread 1/3 eggwhite mixture and 1/3 with nuts. Roll up. Raise for 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
DIRECTIONS FOR ICING:
Mix ingred. together-spread on rolls while still warm and sprinkle with nuts.

Recipe makes 3 rolls[/i]

I live in Boston area now and no one has heard of this and my Mom lost my grandmothers' recipe. I guess I didn't realize it was an ethnic food. ;0
