Chicken Fried Hamburger
Chicken Fried Hamburger
1 pound of hamburger
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of flour
1/4 cup of fat melted or vegetable oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Shape hamburger into flat patties; chill. Place milk and flour in flat dishes; slightly larger than the patties. Place each patty in milk, turn over. Then dip into flour. Place patties into hot skillet with melted fat and season. Cook on each side until crispy, flattening as patties cook. Yields: 4 to 6 servings.

Re: Chicken Fried Hamburger
This looks fantastic! I don't make chicken fried steak very often and when I do I don't usually have any left over. But I did make a sandwich out of one once and I included a little of the left over gravy. I'll bet a little sausage gravy, (or whatever kind you like) would push this recipe over the top.
Another idea would be to use a meatloaf mix for the hamburger patty. Another variation would be to make some large diameter biscuits and use those instead of regular hamburger buns. Sort of a biscuits and gravy meets chicken fried steak and gravy meets a hamburger. I wish I had thought of doing this to a hamburger. My mouth is watering...Thanks for posting.

Re: Chicken Fried Hamburger
Bruce - I make a hamburger gravy, sour cream gravy, mushroom/onion or mushroom or onion gravy, cream gravy, etc. and they all go well with this. Sausage gravy would also go well. We enjoy this as a nice hoagie - a crusty roll with the bread dug out making a "well" and filling with gravy and a patty (shape the patties long for the rolls) and you've got one very sloppy, veryy delicious sammie! Make a batch of oven fries or French fries and drizzle with gravy! Great lunch on a Saturday afternoon!
Enjoy!

Alright now, KW! Now you've gone and done it! I don't have any hamburger in the house and I wasn't planning on going to the grocery store today. But I just have to have one of these Chicken Fried Burgers so I guess I'll be hitting up the local supermarket. I'll let you know how it comes out. Hopefully my kids will like it too.

Unfortunately for me the only people at home tonight are me and my 12yo daughter. My 9yo son is staying at a friend's house and my wife is still working out of town. I could still make the burgers but If I'm going to make a mess frying then I'd rather do it where the whole family is home. I'm disappointed so instead it's leftovers or maybe chili dogs.
Those meatballs sound like another winner. That might be even sound better than the burgers. Too many choices, not enough people at home to eat them...

It's fried the same way chicken is traditionally fried, hence, Chicken Fried Steak...Or in this case, Chicken Fried Hamburger. But what I wonder is why there is now a thing called, "Chicken Fried Chicken"? That's just plain stupid!
