Default Stromboli with variations

This is very easy to make if you want to use frozen/thawed bread dough, or refrigerated bread dough. And it's great with homemade bread or pizza dough!

Serve with an antipasto and you have a great meal!

2 lbs of bread dough (any good recipe for 2 loaves or frozen, thawed and proofed according to package directions)

After the dough is proofed, roll it into a rectangle.

In the center of the rectangle, place a layer of sliced ham, a layer of
mozzarella cheese and sprinkle to taste with Italian seasoning. Fold over
1/3 of the dough on the meat and cheese.

Place another layer of ham, cheese and seasoning. Fold other 1/3 on top of
that and tuck in. Puncture with a fork. Glaze with egg wash, and bake 20
minutes at 350 degrees in a greased pan.

Serve sliced stromboli with pizza sauce on top or use for dipping!

How about some variations?

I've used bulk Italian sausage (cooked and drained) with mozzarella cheese (you can use a nice blend of shredded provolone, mozzarella, Asiago and Pecorino Romano, etc.); how about taco style with cooked, drained and seasoned ground beef or turkey, shredded cheddar or monterey or pepper jack), slice black olives, sliced onion and salsa to dip in; leftover roast beef with Swiss, dip in gravy; or cooked steak/beef with mushrooms and onions - dip in gravy. BBW chicken or pork shredded, dip in BBQ sauce. Don't be afraid to use your imagination!

I make this too, and I normally will make them with whole wheat bread. I love just to take a recipe and have it so versatile you can make it a 100 different ways or more!!
