Ginger Bread
Here is a delicious ginger bread recipe that you can make anytime.
Want something a little different? Where it calls for boiling water, substitute a strong cup of coffee.
2 eggs
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup molasses
3/4 cup melted shortening
2 1/4 cup flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ginger
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 cup boiling water
Add beaten eggs to sugar, molasses and melted shortening; add flour sifted with other dry ingredients; add hot water last. Add mixture to a greased shallow pan. Heat oven to 350 degrees and cook mixture for about 40 minutes.
Makes about 16 pieces.
Serve warm with butter, applesauce or whipped cream.
