Snickerdoodles

They may have an unusual name, but these rich cinnamon-sugar cookies are great for the holidays or anytime you want a tasty cinnamon treat.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1. Heat oven to 400ºF.

2. Mix 1 1/2 cups sugar, the butter, shortening and eggs in large bowl. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

3. Shape dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and the cinnamon. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

Note:
To ensure recipe success if using a vegetable oil spread, use a spread with at least 65% vegetable oil.

I make these all the time. I have even had people want to pay me to make them, because they've never heard of them & when they eat one(or many!), they fall in love with them! I grew up eating these, so I can't imagine anyone not knowing what they are. They are so yummy!
This is my recipe for Snickerdoodles:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 stick butter,softened
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix 1 1/2 c. sugar, the butter, shortening & eggs in large bowl. Stir in next 7 ingredients.
Mix 1/4 c. sugar with the 2 tsp. cinnamon in small bowl.
Shape dough into 1 1/2" balls. Roll each in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place 2" apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until set (watch that they don't get too brown on bottom). Remove from cookie sheet & cool on wire rack.
(About 4 dozen cookies.)
