Mae's Dutch Apple Pie Recipe
Crust:
1 cup flour
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. water
Pie:
1/2 cup sugar
5 Jonathan apples, or enough to fill crust
Cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste
Topping:
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup butter
Directions:
Crust:
Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Add water gradually until just moistened. Roll and place into 9 inch pastry dish.
Filling:
Fill unbaked crust with peeled, sliced apples. Add 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg to taste. Bake at 450°F for 15 minutes. Take out of oven. Cut butter into flour and sugar for topping. Spoon over partially baked pie. Bake at 350°F degrees for an additional 45 minutes, or until bubbly.
