Mae's Dutch Apple Pie Recipe


Crust:
1 cup flour
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. water

Pie:
1/2 cup sugar
5 Jonathan apples, or enough to fill crust
Cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste

Topping:
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup butter
Directions:
Crust:
Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Add water gradually until just moistened. Roll and place into 9 inch pastry dish.

Filling:
Fill unbaked crust with peeled, sliced apples. Add 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg to taste. Bake at 450F for 15 minutes. Take out of oven. Cut butter into flour and sugar for topping. Spoon over partially baked pie. Bake at 350F degrees for an additional 45 minutes, or until bubbly.
