Dutch Apple Bars

1 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 cups thinly sliced peeled tart cooking apples

CRUMB TOPPING

1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
Pinch ground nutmeg
1/4 cup butter or margarine

1. Heat oven to 350. Mix 1 cup flour, 1/3 cup sugar and 1/2 tsp. cinnamon in medium bowl. Cut in butter, using a pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until crumbly. Press in ungreased 9x9x2-inch square pan. Bake 25 minutes (20 minutes is enough).

2. Mix 1/3 cup sugar, 2 tbsp. flour, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and nutmeg in medium bowl. Stir in apples to coat. Spoon over baked layer.

3. Mix all crumb topping ingredients together until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.

4. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until topping is light brown and apples are tender. Cool completely. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows. Yield: 16 bars.
