Read Your Flour Bags!
If you are a flour user like I am - you may have noticed a difference in some of the brands of flour.
One particular brand that I liked changed. My bread dough was rubbery to the touch, cakes were very crumbly, there was a "tinge" to everything and there was an after-taste.
Now with me using flour for over 50 years - I knew it was not me.
I checked my flour bag - ingredients were "normal" but close to the bottom of the bag and stuck in the crease of the bag was a warning in small letters - CONTAINS WHEAT AND SOY.
Everyone knows that flour is made from wheat.
But what's this with the soy??
I thought I had the stomach flu - it was the soy in the flour.
Years ago the only decisions when buying flour were - bleached, unbleached, self-rising, all purpose or bread flour. Now we are expected to read the microscopic fine print in the creases at the bottom of the bag for the word SOY!
I contacted the company about it and told them that the word SOY should be in large letters right on the front of the bag.
Cripe - haven't we got enough dang labels to read??? What are we supposed to do - plan a whole day just for grocery shopping so we can read every dang-blasted label???
Sorry - I haven't the time or the patience - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
