Apple Coffeecake

 1/2           cup  brown sugar

2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons margarine
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups unsifted flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups thinly sliced apples

Blend brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, margarine and cinnamon in bowl, set aside.

Combine sugar, shortening and egg beating thoroughly. Stir in milk.

Mix 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into egg mixture just until smooth.

Spread 1/2 the batter in a greased 9 in square pan. Cover with 1/2 the apples; top with 1/2 of the brown sugar mixture. Repeat layers.

Bake at 375 for 45-50 min.
