BABKA’S CABBAGE PIEROGI
Ingredients:
2 heads of cabbage
1/2 lb. butter
2 onions, chopped
1 tsp. cinnamon
Salt and Pepper to taste.
Melt butter; add chopped onion and saute until soft. Add shredded cabbage, salt, pepper, cinnamon and cook until cabbage is done. Cool before filling Pierogi.
Melt 1 stick butter (1/4 lb) with 1 stick margarine (1/4lb) Add 1 onion that has been chopped. Sauté and reserve for Pierogi after they have been removed from the cooking water and drained. Pour a little over the Pierogi.
Note: Be careful when filling the dough with this mixture, making sure each Pierog is well sealed. Any leftover Pierogi can be frozen in Baggies and reheated in a Microwave. Remove Pierogi from baggies and place in glass bowl, add about 1/2 tsp water, cover and steam for 2 to 3 minutes.
