Baking Powder Biscuits

This one of my great grand mothers recipes. There a lot of others that I will post later

2 cups sifted all-purposed flout
3 tsp. double-acting baking powder
1 tap. salt
4 to 5 pure lard
about 2/3 cups milk

Sift dry ingredients once or twice. Blend with lard with a pastry blender until crumbs are size of small peas. Add milk enough to hold together. Toss out on slightly floured board, knead slightly, folding dough over about six times. Roll out to 1/4 inches thick, cut with a floured biscuit cutter, and brush tops with cream or melted pure butter. Bake on aluminum baking sheet, with biscuits about 1/2 inch apart. Place on top rack in a 450* oven, and bake for 12-15 minutes. Yield 16 biscuits.

PRALINES

Another of great grand mother recipes!!!

1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. butter
2 cups pecan halves

Blend sugars, salt and evaporated milk. cook to 232* (soft ball stage). Remove from heat. Add vanilla, butter and pecan halves. Beat just until candy begins to thicken. Drop by tablespoons onto waxed paper. (Work fast, for candy hardens quickly) Yields 1 1/2 dozen.
