BAKLAVA
1 1/2 lb walnuts
1 lb unsalted butter
1/2 cup white karo syrup
1 – cup honey
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup sugar
1 lb. filo sheets
Grind nuts fine. Combine sugar, nuts, nutmeg & cinnamon. Cut filo sheets to fit
9x13" pan. Make 5 layers of filo with melted butter brushed between each layer.
Add a thin layer of nuts, layer 3 sheets of filo (melted butter between each layer), then nuts. Continue until nuts are gone–ending with 3 layers of filo.
Cut into diamonds. Bake at 350 degrees F. until it starts to brown, then turn oven down to 300 degrees. Bake 1 hour.
Mix honey and karo syrup, heat to boiling. Pour over hot baklava. Let cool and remove from pan.
