Barbara Billingsley's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Barbara Billingsley’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

“For years, ‘Beaver’ fans have been asking
about the ingredients of my chocolate chip
cookies. So in honor of 1987, the 30th
anniversary of 'Leave it to Beaver”, I’ll
reveal my secret recipe. It goes like this:"

1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
Small package of chocolate chips (6 oz)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix shortening, sugar, brown sugar, beaten eggs and vanilla.

Blend flour, salt and soda and stir in.

Mix in a small package of chocolate chips.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

The recipe yields about five dozen cookies.

Ah, it’s the shortening that makes it great. Thanks for posting!

I was searching through the Google newspaper archive for old and different chocolate chip recipes and I came across this one. The actual recipe is not spectacular, it’s a common chocolate chip recipe. But I searched the web and didn’t see it posted in a lot of places, so I posted it here. It would probably be better if you used half shortening and half butter.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I can see the butter & shortening working together. Thanks again! Just the recipe name will bring back memories & make it taste good.
