Beefy Garlic Pizza

Beefy Garlic Pizza
Makes 6-8 slices

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 bulb fresh garlic, peeled and separated into cloves (see Tips)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped seeded plum tomatoes (2 to 3 tomatoes)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 package (6 ounces) sliced provolone cheese
  • 1 store-bought pizza dough (see Tips)

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Roll out the pizza dough and place on a pizza pan. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat and saute the garlic for 4 to 5 mnutes, until golden. Add the ground beef, and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, or until completely browned, stirring frequently. Drain off excess liquid and stir in the tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Spoon the mixture onto the pizza dough. Top with the cheese and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crust is crisp and brown. Cut and serve.

Preparation Tips: If the garlic cloves aren’t all about the same size, cut the bigger ones in half or in quarters. That way, they’ll all cook evenly. And, if you’d prefer to use a prepared pizza shell, that will work here too.
