Hi everyone.

It’s the 4th of July soon and I’ve a few friends coming round and we’re going to have a few drinks and eat some good food (if the weather is good BBQ.)

However, seeing as I’m English and live in old Blighty, this will be the first time I’ve done a 4th of July. I realise that this is slightly ironic, but it’s supposed to be an evening of things Americana.

I’ve bought a variety of US beers, got booze to make things like Long Island Iced Tea and my pyromaniac wife will be getting fireworks… but I want to get some ideas for food that’s appropriate.

Is there a traditional 4th of July meal/food?

I am having a July 4th party here in Thailand and I am cooking fried chicken, BBQ ribs and jambalaya with some sides. Nothing is more American.

Thanks for the fried chicken idea, I can’t believe I’ve never thought of it for the 4th, we usually BBQ, but I’m going to surprise everyone since we are all chicken lovers. I’ll do the traditional sides of slaw (no mayo, too hot), baked beans, corn on cob, potato salad and maybe a fruit tray. I’m set!
