Caramel Dumplings

1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups water

1/2 cup white sugar
4 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons baking powder
dash of salt
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

To prepare Caramel Sauce, combine all ingredients in a large, heavy
skillet with a lid. Stir well to combine as butter melts and heat
to boiling. Turn down to simmer before dropping dumplings in.

To prepare Dumplings, Mix sugar, baking powder, salt and flour
together. Cut in butter till mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir
in milk and vanilla till just combined. Drop dumplings by spoonfuls
into Caramel Sauce. Cover and simmer 12-15 minutes, turning dumplings
halfway through cooking time.
