9 slices whole-wheat bread cut into thirds
1 medium onion - chopped
1 pound grated cheddar cheese
4 eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups milk
1 tbs worchestershire
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
dash of cayenne pepper
In a greased 2-quart casserole dish begin layering with nine pieces of the bread. Sprinkle with a third of the onion and cheese. Repeat this layering until all ingredients are used.
In small bowl whisk together eggs, milk, worchesershire, mustard, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Pour over the bread, onions, and cheddar. Cover the casserole dish with plastic wrap and store in refrigerator overnight.
Remove casserole from frig 30 minutes before baking.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Bake about 50-60 minutes. The casserole will be puffy when it first comes out of the oven and will deflat some as it cools.
