Chocolate Puffed Wheat Squares

My mom always made these when I was a kid, but when my brother and I got to be teens, she stopped for whatever reason. I found the recipe again a few years ago and renewed my addiction.
There’s no baking involved, which makes these a quick chocolatey treat.

1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup corn syrup (we use unpasteurized honey, actually – it gives the squares a unique flavour)
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
8 cups puffed wheat

I usually have my puffed wheat ready to go in a bowl off to the side, to start. Grease a 9x13" pan beforehand as well.

Melt butter in saucepan. Add syrup, sugar, cocoa and vanilla. Bring this sticky concoction to a boil, then remove it from the heat.
Pour it over the puffed wheat and mix quickly (it will harden as it cools). When all the puffed wheat is coated with the chocolate mixture, put it in the pan and press it down with a spoon, spatula or your hands.
Let it cool, and then enjoy!
