Crab Hushpuppies

8 oz crabmeat
3 uncooked slices bacon
1/2 c chopped white onion chopped
1 c cornmeal
1/2 c flour
3/4 t baking powder
11/2 to 2 c buttermilk
Salt & Pepper to taste

Combine crabmeat, bacon and onion and mix well. Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder and salt and pepper and mix well. Add the crabmeat mixture and mix well. Add 1/4 c of the buttermilk and mix well. Continue adding the buttermilk 1/4 c at a time until the batter is moist but not runny. Stir constantly. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or fryer to 350. Drop the batter by spoonfuls into the hot oil. Deep fry for 2-21/2 minutes or until golden brown; drain.
