CREAM OF CABBAGE SOUP

1 1/2 qt. chicken stock
1 1/2 qt. water
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. chopped celery
1/2 c. chopped carrot

Place in large (4 qt.) soup pot and bring to the boil. Add 3 T. Miner’s chicken base and stir in. Add 1 T. salt, 1/2 t. white pepper, 1 1/2 t. garlic powder, 1/2 medium head shredded cabbage and 1 c. sauerkraut, rinsed and drained. Cook, uncovered, 1 hour.

THICKENER:
(this is the trick that makes this simple soup so special !)
Mix together in a bowl 1 1/2 c. sour cream and 1 1/2 c. flour. Add 1 1/2 -2 c. milk and mix with a wire whisk to the consistency of a thick milkshake (the difference in the amount of milk determines the thickness of the soup). Add 1 drop egg shade coloring and heat through.
(serves 12 bowls or 16 cups)
