Creamy Pepper Steak Strips

Servings: 4
Ingredients Preparation

2 tablespoons [30 mL] black peppercorns
1 [1-inch / 2.5-cm] thick slice inside round beef
1 tablespoon [15 g] butter
1 tablespoon [15 mL] oil
1 small onion, chopped
250 mL [1 cup] light cream
Salt, to taste

Transfer peppercorns onto a cutting board.
Cover with waxed paper; crush peppercorns using a rolling pin or a mallet.
Evenly coat both sides of slice of beef with crushed peppercorns; press peppercorns pieces inside of meat.
Over high heat, heat together butter and oil into a large frypan.
Brown beef on one side for 5 minutes; turn meat over and fry until done to taste, for 5 more minutes if you like your meat rare.
Transfer meat onto a cutting board with a place to collect the juices.
Cover meat with al foil.
Add chopped onion to frypan; brown stirring for 5 minutes over medium heat.
Stir in cream; cook for 2 to 3 minutes more, until of syrup consistency.
Salt to taste.
Slice meat thickwise into thin slices; arrange onto a warm serving plate.
Coat meat with creamy cooking juices, and serve.

Delicious! Made this tonight and it was perfect! I didn’t have any onion powder but added some garlic instead. Worked a treat.

I really like pepper steak, so I’m going to have to try making this one.
