Cuban Ground Beef Pie

1/2 pound ground beef, extra lean
1/2 pound ground pork
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 each yellow onion, diced
1 each red and green bell pepper, diced
1 each garlic cloves, mashed
1/4 cup red wine
1/8 cup golden raisins
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 tablespoon tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt and pepper
1 each puff pastry sheet cut in half
1/4 cup eggs, for egg wash
1 1/2 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • Instructions: In a wide pan over high heat sauté the onions, garlic, peppers with olive oil until partially caramelized.
  • Add the meats and season with salt and pepper.
  • While the meat browns soak the raisins in the wine.
  • When meat is nice and brown add rest of the ingredients.
  • Let cook until almost dry.
  • In a oiled cookie sheet place one layer of puff pastry.
  • Spread the meat over leaving a seam of at least one inch.
  • Place the other sheet over the meat and seal the edges brushing with eggs.
  • Decorate the top and make a couple of holes for ventilation.
  • Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • Bake in 400 degrees preheated oven for 25 to 30 min until golden brown.
  • Serve hot.
