1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar, divided
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 medium baking apples
Butter flavor crisco for frying

In medium mixing bowl mix flour, cornstarch, 1 tablespoon sugar, baking powder and salt. In small bowl beat together milk and egg. Gradually add to flour mixture, beating with fork until well blended. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
In small bowl combine remaining 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Peel and core apples. Cut crosswise into rings, 1/4-inch thick.
In deep-fat fryer or deep saucepan heat 1-1/2 to 2 inches crisco to 375ºF. Dip apple slices in batter, allowing excess to drip back into bowl. Fry a few at a time in hot oil for 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown, turning frequently. Drain on paper towels. Dredge in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve immediately or keep warm in 175ºF oven.

I like this recipe all except the butter flavored crisco…

Just use plain Crisco with a tbls of butter added.

I stay away from artificial flavors and colors as much as I can… not good for you!
