DEPRESSION ERA GERMAN CHRISTMAS KUCHEN

Scald 3/4 c. milk and stir in 1/2 c. sugar, 1 1/2 t. salt, 1/2 c. butter or margarine. Cool to lukewarm.

Add 2 pkgs. yeast to 1/2 c. warm water. Stir to dissolve and add to warm milk mixture. Add 1 beaten egg and beat until smooth. Stir in 4 c. flour (save a little for final kneading) mixed with 1 c. candied fruit with citron and 1/2 c. soaked raisins. Knead until smooth and elastic. Let rise. Punch down vigorously and form into two 8 x 8-inch pans (approximate size). Mix 4 t. sugar with 1 t. cinnamon. Sprinkle generously on top, punching in gently with finger tips. Let rise till double. Bake at 375* F. for 30 minutes.
