Dried Cranbeerie & Dried Apples

I have a recipe that calls for dried cranberries and dried apples that need to be added to liquid and other ingredients. It is to be covered and simmered until apples become soft (20 mins). What are dried apples?? Are they the freeze dried apple chips? Will they soften? I located “Dried apples”, but they are soft like the dried cranberries. Please help!!!
