Gram’s “dunkers” were always something served with coffee and tea. They were something she would just throw together and keep in the house. Heavy, plain but great for dunking. Many memories come with this recipe:
Cream 3 sticks butter (softened) with 2 1/4 cups sugar in the red bowl. (that is how it is written!)
Add an egg and 1 cup milk. Sprinkle in “some” cinnamon and/or nutmeg.
Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.
Add 7 to 8 cups flour - adding gradually. (be careful - too much flour will make them tough!)
Chill in batches. Remove one batch at a time and allow to soften enough to roll. Roll 1/4-inch thick and cut. Bake until done.
Store airtight a few days before eating - they will taste better.
