Electric vs. Gas

I know that through all the various cooking shows, cookbooks, etc that they say to not heat a non-stick pan over the 500 degree mark, which is about medium heat. My question (which I hope makes sense) is, is there a difference between heating a non-stick pan on medium with an electric stove or gas stove? I figure that the quality of the pan and stove play a part, I’m just not sure if there is a difference in the heat intensity put out by both types of stoves.
