freesing potato soup w/sour cream

Would like to make this soup ahead of time for the holidays. It is comprised of only potatoes, onions, bacon, s&p, and sour cream. Very thick and sooooooo good. I have seen potato soup in the frozen section of grocery stores and yet I have heard sour cream can coddle once frozen. Will the potatoes freeze well? Should I add the sour cream once reheating to serve? Thanks!
