Fresh Apple Cake Squares

Fresh Apple Cake Squares

2 cups self-rising flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup oil
2 eggs
2 tsps. cinnamon,
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup warm water
2 cups diced apple
1 cup walnut pieces

In a large bowl, mix everything with electric mixer, EXCEPT chopped apples & walnuts until well blended. Add nuts and apples and stir in with spoon. Bake in 13 x 9 well greased pan, at 350-degrees for about 25 minutes. Take out of the oven. While still hot, poke holes all over with tines of a fork and pour this glaze over. Keep cake covered and cut into squares. Delicious!

*For Glaze, Mix together half bottle of
Smuckers Caramel Sundae Syrup, and
2 Tbsp. butter
heat together in a pot on stove or in a bowl in microwave

I haven’t tried this yet but it looks good. Have you tried this recipe using some apple sauce in place of some of the diced apples, or maybe in addition to them? Either way, the topping with the caramel syrup must really push this cake over the top. Yum.

No, I haven’t. I just used the chopped Gala apples. I suppose you could use part applesauce along with the apples, but you may need to cut back on the eggs, oil, water & sour cream. This is a very moist cake as it is, and the topping makes it extra moist! Even better the next day!
