Fried Mozzarella Nuggets

Fried Mozzarella Nuggets

8 ounces string cheese sticks, room temperature
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Salt and pepper
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
Extra-light olive oil, for deep frying
Bottled chunky marinara sauce, for dipping

Cut cheese sticks into thirds. Place flour on a plate and season it with salt and pepper. Put the egg in a small bowl. Place bread crumbs on a plate.
Add cheese pieces to flour and toss to coat. Dip in egg, and then roll in bread crumbs. Arrange breaded cheese in a single layer on a tray or baking sheet. Let stand for 15 to 30 minutes. Pour oil into large skillet to a depth of 1-inch, and heat over medium-high heat. When oil is hot, carefully drop cheese pieces in, a few at a time, and fry until golden, about 30 seconds. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve with your favorite chunky marinara sauce for dipping.

Pat - have you ever tried this with Cheddar, Swiss, provolone, etc.?? It’s really good with many cheeses too. And if you want to - wrap a piece of deli ham. turkey or salami (depending on the cheese used) around the cheese stick and secure it with a toothpick or two, then bread and fry. You can use any combination of deli meats and cheeses. Good with a mustard sauce or a mayo-based sauce too. - just don’t eat the toothpick! LOL

KW,
We also use the different cheeses but mozzarella is our favorite. You can kick this up a notch or two by adding some hot sauce or hot peppers to the dipping sauce. It certainly will warm you up in the cold weather!

We try to tone it down when carrying to potluck suppers at church. I’m sure we all have enough to sweat about without adding more (LOL).

Oh God do I ever know what some of those “hot” days are like!!!

But you can also kick it up a notch my filling peppers - pepperoncini, jalapeno, hot peppers, banana peppers with cheese and then bread and fry.
Oh how bad we can be when we use our imaginations!!! Or fill giant green olives, or cherry tomatoes - cheese can be used to fill anything. I love cheese - all kinds - fixed every way imaginable!! And I will plunge anything into a deep fryer!

And top it off with chocolate - like deep rich chocolaty cake, filled with chocolate pudding and frosted with double chocolate frosting and decorated with chocolate curls and HEATH BARS!!!

I really need a chocolate fix -
