Fun Recipes to make for the kids...

Finger Paints
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup soap flakes or detergent
food color
1 small package unflavored gelatin
2 cups hot water

Dissolve cornstarch in 3/4 cup cold water and soak gelatin in remaining 1/4 cup of water. Mix together, add hot water and boil until clear stirring constantly, Add soap and stir until dissolved. Cool. Divide into jars and add color as desired.

Multicolored Crayons

Peel papers off of broken crayons and melt carefully in a small pan at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Cool and break into pieces.

Be careful not to leave them in the oven to long or the wax will rise to the top and the color to the bottom.

Play Dough

1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
1 Tbsp cooking oil
1 cup flour
2 tsp cream of tarter
Food coloring (add at end only)

Mix all but coloring and cook on medium heat until thickened. Put on wax paper and knead until smooth. Add color, knead. Store in ziplock baggies.
To keep from coloring your hands, place in bags before adding color and knead through the bag.

Edible Peanut Butter Playdough

1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup honey
1 1/2 cup powdered milk

Mix all ingredients to make dough.

KoolAid Playdough

2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup salt
3 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 cups boiling water
2 pkg unsweetened Kool Aid

Mix dry ingredients. Add oil and water. Wear gloves and knead 10 minutes. Store in zipper bag in refrigerator.

Easy Finger Paint

1/2 cup cornstarch
3 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups cold water
food coloring

In medium pan, mix all ingredients except coloring. Cook over low heat 10-15 minutes. Keep stirring until smooth and thick. After it thickens take off of the stove. Let cool. After cool, divide into jars and add color. Mix well

Homemade Sidewalk Chalks

1 cup plaster of paris
1/2 cup water
2-3 Tbsp tempra paint

Mix plaster of paris and paint then add water. Pour into molds, dry for 24 hours. Remove from molds and allow to air dry for 2-7 days.
Use dixie style cups for molds or a toilet paper roll with one end covered with aluminum foil.

Silly Slime
Mix 1 cup cornstarch with 1 cup water.
Mix unti smooth.
Add food coloring.
Store in covered container for several days.

Puff Paints
Mix equal parts of shaving cream and white school glue. Divide mixture into seperate containers and add coloring.

Apple Cinnamon Clay
Great for making wonderful smelling ornaments, and it won’t hurt if the curious kids eat them.:slight_smile:
1/4 cup white glue
1/3 cup applesauce
3 Tbsp cinnamon
1 3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup water

Mix together until dough forms a ball. Knead 1-2 minutes, add a little flour if too sticky. Roll out and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 300 degrees for 10 minutes.

Crafty Ideas for adding to playdoughs:
Add glitter for sparkle.
Add vanilla extract to help preserve, and prevent mold. Also makes it smell good.
