Georgia Mint Julep

I am changing things up slightly from the original Julep recipe, but this is my pick to celebrate the holiday weekend in perfect fashion. The addition of peach makes it feel more like a special summer drink. Cheers!

Georgia Mint Julep:
½ oz Simple Syrup
1½ parts Bourbon
1 part Hiram Walker Peach Brandy
4-5 mint sprigs

Place mint & syrup in a julep cup and muddle. Add other ingredients, fill with crushed ice and stir until the glass is frosted. Garnish with fresh mint.

Probably the old-fashioned julep is in its decadence as a public drink, but it does not follow that the art of constructing this famous Southern refresher is lost. On the contrary, we have knowledge of several old-fashioned gardens where the mint bed under the southern wall still blooms luxuriantly Ingredients:

* sugar
* water
* crushed ice
* brandy
* peach brandy
* fresh mint

Preparation:
Chill silver julep tumblers or mugs.

For each tumbler, dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar in a little water. Reserve.

I had a bartender “try” to make a mint julep for me once… she did such a bad job that I’ve been afraid to order one since… the thought of all those ingredients, though, sounds wonderful.
