GERMAN COFFE CAKE - old recipe

1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, separated
1 t. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. fresh berries of choice

In large bowl, cream butter, sugar, egg olks and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and milk; mix well. Beat egg whites until stiff; fold into batter. Gently pour into 9 X 9-inch baking pan. Sprinkle with Crumb Topping.

Bake in preheated 350* F. oven for 40 minutes. Cool in pan. top each portion with berries before serving.

Crumb Topping: 1/3 c. flour, 1/3 c. brown sugar (firmly packed), 1/2 t. baking powder, 1 T. margarine - combine until crumbly.
