Getting Back to Normal After Hypoglycemia ( Diabetes )
Low blood glucose levels can affect your ability to think clearly. The good news is that your brain function usually returns to normal after you treat an episode of low blood glucose.
Researchers have studied brain function in people before and after they experienced severe hypoglycemia. They found that brain function generally returns to normal within 36 hours of a severe hypoglycemic attack. However, they also found that patients with frequent hypoglycemia were more likely to experience extreme changes in mood or depression. It was unclear, however, whether frequent hypoglycemia caused these changes. Prolonged or severe hypoglycemia can cause permanent brain damage when left untreated.
