Hot Fudge Sundae Cake


1/2 c. water
1/4 c. butter
1 c. flour
3/4 c. sugar
3 T. cocoa
1/2 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 c. buttermilk*
1/2 t. vanilla extract
1 egg
1 c. hot fudge sauce
Whipped topping and maraschino cherries, for garnish

Heat oven to 350* F. Spray 9" square pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside. In small saucepan, heat water and butter until butter melts; set aside. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; mix well. Add water mixture, buttermilk, vanilla and egg. Beat at low speed until moistened; beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 15-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Meanwhile, heat fudge sauce as directed on container, spread on hot cake. Return to oven and bake an additional 10 minutes. Cool 10-15 minutes, serve warm. If desired, garnish with whipped topping and maraschino cherries.
