Iowa Corn Bread Pie


1 lb. ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 can tomato soup
2 c. water
1+1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. chili powder
1 c. whole kernel corn, drained
1/2 c. chopped green pepper
3/4 c. yellow cornmeal
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. flour
1+1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 beaten egg
1/2 c. milk
1 tbsp. melted fat

Brown the beef and add the onion in the skillet. Add the soup, water, 1 tsp. salt, pepper, chili powder, corn and green pepper and mix well. Simmer for 15 min. and pour into a greased casserole. Sift the cornmeal, sugar, flour, remaining salt and baking powder into a bowl. Add the egg and milk and stir lightly. Add the fat and mix. Spread over beef mixture.

Bake at 350 or 18 - 20 min. 6 - 8 servings.
